The Kotagiri sub-tropical climate
Cultivated at 1,200 meters above sea level, our orchards sit in an elevation band where daytime warmth, cool nights, and natural hillside mist combine to nurture firm, high-brix blueberries.
Blueberry bushes require sustained chilling hours during dormancy alongside gentle, unforced sunlight throughout fruit set. Benefiting from a temperate sub-tropical hill climate, the Nilgiri slopes avoid the extreme heat of the plains below, sustaining an average thermal amplitude that allows berries to develop complex aromatics without heat stress.
Filtered valley mists roll across the hillside contours every morning, naturally regulating relative humidity and keeping canopy transpiration steady. Combined with our precision substrate and drip water management, every cultivar receives exact moisture balances while keeping root zones aerated and disease-free.
Ground-level perspective of our Kotagiri plantation
A visual record of our high-elevation plots, protected canopy systems, and precision agricultural infrastructure situated in the Nilgiri hills.

Terraced cultivation blocks engineered for optimal solar exposure and mountain drainage.

A geomembrane-lined water catchment pond captures and stores irrigation supply, with shade-netted terraces visible on the adjoining hillside.
Cultivation in substrate, fed by rain.
Every bush is grown in dedicated coir pith growing medium with precision drip fertigation, drawing clean water harvested across our Berry Rock estate.
Disciplined hill agriculture
Rather than planting directly into unconditioned mountain soil, Berry Rock Estates cultivates exclusively in specialized coir pith growing medium. This elevated layout ensures optimal root aeration, protects crops from soil-borne pathogens and waterlogging during intense Nilgiri rains, and enables our agronomy team to maintain consistent, measured fertigation across every block.
Substrate cultivation
Bushes grow in aerated coir pith growing medium above ground level, isolating root zones from soil-borne pathogens and maintaining uniform moisture levels.
Precision drip fertigation
Automated drippers deliver water and balanced nutrients straight to each plant base at measured intervals calibrated to montane weather.
Rainwater harvesting pond
Monsoon runoff is captured in a lined hillside storage reservoir, filtered continuously to sustain the entire orchard through dry spells.
